The Right Way to Use Important Questions
Don't try to predict exact questions. Identify high-frequency themes from PYQs + syllabus + current affairs, and prepare multiple questions around each theme.
- Step 1 — Read the question — Treat each bank question as an answer-writing topic, not reading material.
- Step 2 — Identify the directive — Discuss, examine, critically examine, evaluate, compare...
- Step 3 — Write a 5-7 point framework — Sketch the skeleton before writing.
- Step 4 — Enrich — Add an example, data, committee, constitutional provision, government scheme.
- Step 5 — Write under time pressure — Practice the full answer against the clock.
The most important preparation rule
Don't ask 'What will UPSC ask?' Ask 'If UPSC asks this topic from any angle, can I answer it?' Prepare whole themes — e.g. Federalism: constitutional provisions, fiscal/cooperative/competitive federalism, Governor, GST, inter-state disputes, Centre-State relations, local government, challenges, reforms — so any angle is covered.

- Constitution (5/5)
- Significance of the Basic Structure Doctrine; significance of the Preamble and whether it can be amended; relationship between Fundamental Rights and DPSP; expansion of Article 21; constitutional significance of Fundamental Duties; safeguards for individual liberty; significance of judicial review.
- Parliament (5/5)
- Role of Parliamentary Committees in executive accountability; causes of declining legislative scrutiny; significance and limitations of the anti-defection law (should it be restricted to survival votes?); role of the Speaker; major challenges affecting Parliament's functioning.

- Maps, rivers, mountains, passes, straits, seas, monsoon, climate, soils, agriculture, minerals, industries. Make map practice a regular activity.
- Science & Technology
- Don't memorize everything in the news — focus on technology + application. Style: 'Consider the following applications of CRISPR technology...', 'Which of the following are possible applications of quantum technology?'
- History
- Ancient: Buddhism, Jainism, Mauryan, Gupta, Harappan, art & culture. Medieval: Bhakti, Sufi, Mughal, Vijayanagara. Modern (highest priority): Acts, movements, organizations, leaders, Congress sessions, revolutionary movements, British policies.
